REVIEW: VALENTINES FOR THE RANCHER is the first book in a brand-new series, Aspen Creek Bachelors, by talented storyteller, Kathy Douglass! Welcome, fans, to the resort/ranching community of Aspen, Colorado, home of the Aspen Creek Bachelors. I love starting a new series because the first book gives you valuable information about the place and the denizens who reside there. Who’s up first? Miles Montgomery is the first bachelor we are introduced to. Miles is a rancher, divorcee, and the father of a three-year-old son, Benji. Our heroine, Jillian Adams, is also a divorcee, and the mother of a two-year-old daughter, Lilliana. You know when there are children involved in the storyline, the story is bound to be delightful and entertaining.

This is a second chance story. Miles and Jillian have history that goes back to when they were their children’s ages. They grew up together, played together, went to the same schools, became high school sweethearts, and dated throughout college. However, one night something happened to change their relationship. I’m not going to spill any tea about that dilemma, but I’ll allow you to discover exactly what happened between Miles and Jillian when you read their story. However, I will say that they both married other people, divorced, and gained custody of their children. Miles remained in Aspen Creek, and when the story opens, Jillian is returning to Aspen Creek with her daughter in order to begin a new chapter in her life. What happens when Miles and Jillian meet again after some years apart is the heart and soul of this story. And a good story it is! Although Miles and Jillian are labeled the star characters, the actual stars of the story are their children, Benji and Lilliana.

Of course, once the word gets out that Jillian is back in town, all eyes are on Miles and Jillian. Jillian is reunited with her family and old friends who support her, and Mikes has his parents who support him, and his siblings who lend him solicited, but most of the time, unsolicited advice. I love small town stories because everybody is in everybody’s business. Aspen Creek is no exception. Miles and Jillian’s HFN is wonderful as they ride the rails to a new life together. You’ll get that when you read the book.

VALENTINES FOR THE RANCHER is an enjoyable, amusing, and engaging story, I love second chance stories, and this one is a winner! I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
