REVIEW: TO BREATHE AGAIN is the heartwarming and compelling story of Isoken Adolo and Tekeno Tamuno. Ms Nwankwor’s native land, Africa, serves as the backdrop for her stories of love, and God’s mercy and grace. I especially like how Ms Nwankwor intertwines lessons of faith into her stories without being preachy. To read a Unoma Nwankwor story is to become totally immersed into the Naija (Nigerian) culture, the food, the music, and the language. No worries. There is a Glossary included.

When the story begins, the heroine, Isoken Adolo, is experiencing a life crisis that is universal. Her fiancé has died, and she is broken. What transpires, in the following chapters, is a beautifully written story of how a heartbroken young woman goes from pain to promise. Her journey includes Tekeno “Tex” Tamuno, a champion race car driver, who is burdened about an experience from his past that he blames himself for. Isoken and Tekeno are two people who are captives of their past and in need of an escape from the shackles of the past. In addition, they first must learn to like each other. Not to omit the fact that Isoken abhors Tekeno’s death-defying race car driving profession. Their relationship is complicated, and it borders on the enemies-to-lovers romance trope. You’ll understand when you read the story. To add to the complications of Isoken and Tekeno’s relationship is Isoken’s plan to accomplish something that has been an aspiration for a long time. No spoilers. You have to read the story, my friends. Ironically, the couple find themselves in a situation that inevitably has them working together.

All the minor characters contribute to the intrigue of the story and the development of the main characters. Playing significant support characters are Isoken’s sister, Itohan, and her husband, Osaro, who also happens to be Tekeno’s best friend. The first book,
TO LIVE AGAIN, of this two-book series, features Itohan and Osaro. Isoken and Tekeno’s HEA is sublime!

All the elements of great story telling are present in
TO BREATHE AGAIN from sterling characterization to  well-developed internal and external conflicts. Plus, there are three beautiful original poems that the author included. Breathe is my favorite. TO BREATHE AGAIN is a captivating story, and I highly recommend it for your reading pleasure.
