REVIEW: MILO’S TALE is another delightful story from the Bae Reimagined Series. It draws inspiration from the legendary story of Mulan, presenting it through a fresh lens and unexpected gender reversal. In this reimagining, Milo Bennett takes on the role traditionally held by Mulan, while Tia Summers is the strong female lead. Ms. Lister masterfully blends the themes of courage, identity, and love within a modern context.
Set in present-day America, the story follows Milo Bennett, a man willing to go to great lengths for his family and community. He certainly echoes the selflessness and bravery of Mulan. When faced with a crisis that threatens the family business, and those he loves, Milo embarks on a journey that challenges him and forces him into confrontation with a bad actor. Tia Summers enters Milo’s life as a confidant and encourages him to embrace his true potential. Their relationship develops with authenticity, marked by moments of tension, tenderness, and growth.
Milo is not your typical alpha male at all. He is introspective, and deeply loyal. Yet, his ninja persona rises to the occasion. You’ll get that when you read the story. Tia is independent, compassionate, and she serves as an equal partner in their journey. The supporting cast adds depth, providing a network of family and friends that enriches the story.
The romance between Milo and Tia is the heart and soul of the story. Ms. Lister allows their connection to develop organically. Fans of slow-burn romance will appreciate the gradual build-up; however, you will not be disappointed by the story’s heartfelt moments. I especially liked the flip of the traditional Mulan story, and getting a different perspective of the idea of heroism. You will understand completely when you read the book.
MILO’S TALE is a love story and a story of personal discovery. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and I know you will too. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
