REVIEW: I love Lacey Baker’s (aka A.C. Arthur’s) stories. LETHAL REUNION is a Christian Romantic Suspense, and Ms. Baker is one of the best writers I know at drawing the reader in at the very beginning of a story. This story takes place in Blueridge, Maryland, a small town in Western Maryland where everybody knows your name and business. For the heroine, Halle Jefferson, you would think her 15th class reunion would be a festive occasion; however, as she enters the venue, she whispers, “Lord, give me strength.” She is going to need it because this 15th class reunion is going to be epic in so many frightening ways.
Instead of walking into a festive setting, Halle is walking into a setting that brings back horrific memories of her twin sister’s, Stella, unsolved murder fifteen years ago. Why did Halle decide to return to the “scene of the crime”? In order to move forward with her life, she has to go back to be able to move on to a future she deserves. It’s an emotional dilemma that has Halle very troubled. The minute she pulls up a text message on her phone, the storyline takes a turn for the worse. It’s a threatening message because the person seems to be in the same room as Halle, and it stops her dead in her tracks. Watching all this play out is Sheriff Kyle Briscoe, Halle’s high school boyfriend. A gun shot rings out, Halle is taken down to the floor by Kyle, and pandemonium reigns, and an active shooter is on the loose. Why? Well, fans, it all revolves around Stella’s cold case murder. Fifteen years has passed, but Kyle, a former FBI profiler, has never forgotten that murder, and this time, on his watch as sheriff, he is determined to finally bring it to a close. Get ready for suspense-filled story that involves a high school time capsule buried for 15 years, and some former high school students.
The citizens of Blueridge comprise most of the side characters. However, Kyle’s former team of FBI profilers from Quantico are the most intriguing side characters who show up to help Kyle close the 15 year old case. In the meantime, Kyle and Halle slowly renew their relationship. The Epilogue serves as the perfect vehicle that provides Kyle and Halle with a satisfying resolution to their past troubles while leaving room for future possibilities with each other.
There’s nothing like a good second-chance-at-love story, topped off with suspense, mayhem, and finally, spiritual peace. That’s LETHAL REUNION in a nutshell. I highly recommend it for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!
