REVIEW: KILL FOR YOU by Kia Richards is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read for 2021, and, yes, it features black protagonists, a rare occurrence in this genre. I was gripped from the very first page but took my time to savor the twists and turns, and finally sighed with total satisfaction when I closed the final page of book.

The story is familiar. When Zenyia Washington is injured during a hit and run accident, it ruins her dream of being a professional classical musician. While she is still able to play after an extensive rehabilitation, she knows she will not play with the same skill as before.  Ironically, now a music therapist, she has achieved some measure of happiness. Things, however, turn dark when someone who seems obsessed with her, kills the man who caused her injuries, and keeps on killing.

There are so many things I loved about the book. The major characters were well-crafted. Strong and resilient, Zenyia is a worthy protagonist. Her backstory is heartbreaking, but her ability to bounce back and build a meaningful life for herself. Elliot Nolan is the perfect foil, and a perfect love interest. The secondary characters, Sid, Eve and Tony are also well fleshed out and are significant additions to the story’s narrative.

Ms. Richards takes us, her eager readers, into the mind of the cold-blooded killer and allows us to experience his thoughts and emotions. With each gruesome death, we cannot fail to wonder who will be next?

KILL FOR YOU is gripping and fast-paced and I love every minute of it. While the book is listed as a psychological thriller, the romance between Elliot and Zenyia is real and the chemistry between them will not fail to satisfy Ms. Richards’ ‘romance’ fan, but it is the search of a killer which makes the story compelling. Fans of the genre will be delighted with this effort from Ms. Richards and await her next effort with bated breath. Be sure to get your copy of KILL FOR YOU.
