REVIEW: The inimitable storyteller, Lacey Baker, introduces us to Crescent Island, a beautiful, picturesque vacation spot located off the coast of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and the citizens of this tranquil and intriguing town. I love getting in on the first book of a new series, and this one does not disappoint. Meet Allison “Allie” Sparks, a travel writer who is trying to save her job. More about that later. Her first encounter on Crescent Island is a meet-cute with Optimus, a Great Dane and his owner, Ryan Parker, a member of one of the first families of the island, who just happens to be the brother of Allie’s best friend, Sophia.
As mentioned, Allie is the lead writer on the See.Eat.Travel blog, and she has been charged by her boss with writing future articles with more positivity. Allie is going to try because she loves her job. During the course of the story, you will understand that this is a major challenge for Allie because she grew up in a negative environment; namely, her family. The only bright light of her early years was her sister Bella who left home as soon as she could and is currently MIA. Her college roommate, Sophia, is the other person close to Allie. Ms. Baker provides several subplots that add to the allure of this story. Allie’s love interest, Ryan, is charged with obtaining funding for a project that will expand his family business and help him to “find his place in the family legacy”. Throw in the unexpected return of his ex-girlfriend to add to the drama. Then there is the “Matchmaker” reputation of the island and the mysterious Diamond Club composed of four women who share the “secret” that surrounds the Island lore. Add to that, Allie hiring a PI to find her long lost sister, and the hold that her parents have on her…it all makes for an enthralling read.
I love the inhabitants of Crescent Island, who include Parker’s family members and friends who make for some very intriguing characters who freely offer advice with no holds barred. I can’t wait to read who will be the next couple to succumb to the Crescent Island Matchmaker. The Epilogue houses Allie and Ryan’s HEA, and it is everything.
HER UNEXPECTED MATCHMAKER is an entertaining and engaging read with just the right amount of heat and sweet. I guarantee you will fall in love with the enchanting Crescent Island and the people who inhabit it. Get in on the ground floor of this new series. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
