Review: Colton's Vow

REVIEW: COLTON’S VOW is my introduction to a new writer, Charlene Parris. I am familiar with the Colton family of Arizona: Adam, Josh (COLTON AT RISK) and Laura Colton (COLTON’S LAST RESORT) are the owners of the luxurious Mariposa Resort, the setting of the story. This story highlights Danielle “Dani” Colton, the sibling who lives in London and Matthew “Matt” Bennett, owner of a merger and acquisitions company. Matt has a connection to the Colton family through his diabolical aunt, Glenna, who raised him, and who is stepmother to the Colton siblings. The Colton patriarch, Clive, is at odds with the siblings over ownership of the resort. It’s a mess, y’all. When Dani arrives at Mariposa for Laura’s wedding festivities, she has been asked to “keep an eye on Matt” to see if he is involved in any way in conspiring against the siblings because his connection to Glenna is suspect.

Now, you have the basis for a budding friendship and more between Dani and Matt. It doesn’t take Dani long to discover that Matt is a good guy and not involved in bringing Mariposa down. Someone is, but the suspense starts when Dani becomes the center of attention. We discover that Dani has a different mother from her three siblings. This leads to another storyline that is cleverly woven into this romantic suspense - the appearance of an uncle, Ken, (Dani’s mother’s brother) whom Dani had no idea existed. It gets real tense and shady from that point on. I love the drama that makes the story a page turner. No spoilers! Kudos to Ms. Parris for an added depth to the main narrative.

I enjoyed reading this story. The romance between Dani and Matt allowed them to navigate life as they faced personal challenges, and to also develop an authentic connection. I recommend COLTON’S VOW for your reading pleasure. The elements of tension, mystery, danger and passion combine to make a great summer read.
