REVIEW: The Blessing Series, penned by acclaimed author Beverly Jenkins, is a heartwarming and inspirational saga set in the small town of Henry Adams, Kansas. The series began with Bernadine Brown, a wealthy divorcee from Detroit who uses her recent windfall to purchase the struggling town of Henry Adams on eBay. This sets the stage for a tapestry of 12 interwoven stories with a diverse cast of characters seeking new beginnings. Sadly, the story of Henry Adams ends with CALLING ALL BLESSINGS.
Bernadine Brown July is still the woman who “turns the world,” but she has help in the very capable Mayor, Sheila Payne. Henry Adams is prospering and looking forward to new opportunities and new growth in the form of a partnership with a data company headed by women, the opening of a new B&B, and a fancy restaurant, The Three Spinsters, in honor of Rachel Eddings, Daisy Miller, and Lucretia Potter. As a matter of of fact, the three spinsters have a ring-side seat as they observe the goings on in Henry Adams. You’ll get that when you read the story.
The storyline centers around Tamar, the town matriarch, Devon, the boy with a James Brown persona who is struggling with growing pains, and a newcomer to the town, Ellis. At the core of each of these characters is a celebration of hope and the healing power of collective support.
CALLING ALL BLESSINGS is a beautifully written novel that offers a message of hope, and the importance of community. With relatable characters and heartfelt storytelling, the book is a testament to the power of compassion, the importance of history, and the possibility of new beginnings. I highly recommend it for anyone who appreciates uplifting fiction that resonates long after the final page. It is a well-told story about the human spirit filled with laughter, tears, and above all, hope.
