ROMANTIC SUSPENSE
REVIEW: Juno Rushdan launches her new spin-off series, Ironside Protection Services, with a fast-paced, action-packed romantic suspense, BIG SKY SLAYER. The story opens with chaos in the center of downtown as Winter Stratton and Chance Reyes are thrown together during a shooting. Winter's immediate races the find the shooter, while Chance is close behind, trying to protect her. The shooter escapes and, eventually, they end up working together to discover identity and motivation of the shooter.
Chance, an attorney at Ironside Protection Services, is handsome, charming and stubborn and will do anything to protect those he loves. Winter, an agent with the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, is fearless, smart and totally focused on her job. Both characters have depth—Chance's cool, casual personality hides a longing for commitment, while Winter is wary of men due to past relationships. The fact that Chance is a flirt makes her even more cautious. However, they cannot ignore their mutual attraction. Supporting characters, like Winter’s sisters Summer and Autumn, not only add depth to the story plot and create a sence of family which I found appealing.
The suspense remains high throughout, and having to put the book down periodically was difficult. Overall, this first entry in the Ironside Protection Service Series skillfully blends romance and suspense and is a strong start to what looks to be a promising series.
I totally enjoyed this release by Ms. Rushdan. It is a worthy addition to her portfolio of stories for Harlequin Intrigue. I am looking forward to BIG SKY SAFE HOUSE, Book #2 in the series and definitely recommend it to fans and lovers of romantic suspense. Fortunately, you don’t have long to wait. It’s out next month.
