REVIEW: I just love being a part of the U.N. Universe! We are back in Viva City with another sports romance centered around the world of football (soccer) in North London. I know very little about soccer (football), but I have learned a lot by reading the stories in this series. In BEYOND THE TOUCHLINE, headlining the Viva City Football Club is Ehizojie Irabor #17 who plays left wing position and is making a comeback from a torn ACL. As part of his contract with the club, Ehi or Zo, as he is called, must take part in the club’s mentorship program with the youth teams at the Outreach Center. Enter the program’s mentorship director, Idara Etienam.

I loved the budding relationship between Ehi and Idara. They both come with baggage that tests their love and their faith. Ehi is tasked with regaining his prominence in the league after an injury and being that key player that helps to propel a struggling football team into the big leagues and a much sought after championship. No pressure, right? Idara has her own challenges that revolve around funding her dreams for the Outreach Center that is in danger of being dissolved. Both Idara and Ehi find themselves in roles that challenge their faith and their love. Readers of Ms. Nwankwor’s beautifully crafted stories are always embraced with “Black love, faith, family, African culture, cuisine, and customs.” That is the U. N. Universe!

The Epilogue is everything! We have the assurance that Idara and Ehi’s relationship is a solid one that leads to a beautiful HFN.

I highly recommend
BEYOND THE TOUCHLINE, by Unoma Nwankwor, for your reading pleasure. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I encourage you to immerse yourself in this series that begins with GAME OF TWO HALVES. Author Kiru Taye teams with Ms. Nwankwor in contributing stories in this series that are equally engaging, enlightening, and entertaining. They can be great additions to your summer reading pile.
