REVIEW: Talented author, Sheryl Lister has given us another beautiful and heartwarming story set in the small town of Firefly Lake and centers around a group of friends who has formed the Supper Club. In A PROMISE OF FOREVER, we meet Terri Rhodes, an ER nurse, and her husband Jon, an attorney with a growing practice. When the story opens, Terri and Jon are experiencing a rough time in their marriage. It is so bad that Terri in the first sentence of the story, issues these three words: “I’m losing him.” The disconnect between our couple is growing wider and wider, and it is becoming very noticeable to their friends.

Jon is becoming more like a recluse in his own marriage incapable of expressing himself emotionally. What has him so bound and uncommunicative? It stems from his father’s philosophy of manhood that has been drilled in Jon from a young boy, and the proverbial elephant in the room that both Jon and Terri are forced to deal with. In order to find out what is going on in this couple’s life and the unfortunate decline in their marriage, you will have to read this engaging story.

Terri and Jon’s marriage is in trouble and their friends, Serenity and Gabriel (
A TABLE FOR TWO) and Natasha and Antonio (A PERFECT PAIRING) are there for them to offer support and advice. However, it is not until Terri makes a move that forces Jon to fight for his marriage. It marks a pivotal and promising point in the story. The Epilogue is wonderful! The second chance at love for Jon and Terri is so uplifting.

I loved this story! I am convinced that Sheryl Lister is not a multi-award-winning author in name only. Her well-crafted stories feature characters who may be flawed, but they are always saved by love. Oh, and I suggest you take advantage of using those delicious recipes she has included in this series. Good friends, good food, and a good story are a winning combo. I highly recommend
A PROMISE OF FOREVER for your reading pleasure. Move it to the top of your summer reading pile. You can thank me later.
