REVIEW: WHAT’S DONE IN DARKNESS is a tale of suspense that is set in Key West, Florida. This novel is a sequel to Perrin’s previous work, WE’LL NEVER TELL. The Prologue, which occurs five years prior, sets the tone and successfully draws the reader in to the story.

As the story progresses, we are introduced to two female characters who are living victims of the villain in this story. First, there is Shawde Williams, who is desperately seeking to expose her brother’s killer after 5 ½ years. Then, there is Jade Blackwin, the heroine who tries to pull her crumbling life together by relocating to Key West, Florida. Although they live totally separate lives, they have a common bond, that eventually unites them, in the person of Katrina Hughes, the obvious villain, killer and all around manipulating psychopath. (Side Note: Shawde’s deceased brother was Katrina’s boyfriend at the time of his death.) So, it’s not a question of “who dunnit”, but how and when the treacherous Katrina will finally be exposed. After Katrina plans a disturbingly calculated nightmare of a vacation to Cancun, Mexico and two dead bodies later, we finally get those questions answered. Let’s not forget that this is a romantic suspense tale. So, at the end of this harrowing story, the heroine, Jade finally makes a love connection with undercover DEA Agent Brian Hunter.

I liked this story, although it got a little bogged down in the middle. The one character that really stands out is the villainous, manipulative Katrina. Jade, on the other hand, comes off as slightly weak, a little too trusting and naïve.

I recommend
WHAT’S DONE IN DARKNESS to those who enjoy a semi-suspenseful read with a hint of romance.
