REVIEW: Hendrix Beausolie and Donovan Russell are as different as night and day. At first they fit together like oil and water. Donovan had no idea how his life was about to change when he hires Hendrix to be his new pastry chef for The Casa de Mariposa Hotel and Casino. When these two meet, their differences are apparent from the onset. Donovan is a very conventional chef, but there is nothing remotely conventional about Hendrix.  While they are butting heads over recipes, Donovan and Hendrix are also getting closer. When someone threatens the future of the casino, they band together and grow even closer. Before long things start to heat up in the kitchen.

Donovan Russell is a Cordon Bleu trained chef who leaves his life and five-star kitchen behind in Paris to help his grandmother in her Reno casino. He is an excellent chef but now he is busy revamping the menus at all the restaurants on the casino property. With the help of his new pastry chef, he plans to give the bigger casinos a run for their money.

Hendrix Beausolie is quirky, funny and unorthodox to say the least. She is a fireball of energy that cannot be contained. Her retro apparel tells its own story.  Beneath all the idiosyncrasies is a pastry chef extraordinaire. Hendrix never uses recipes; but patrons rave about her mouth-watering desserts, and they always come back for more. Her baking abilities are almost legendary. Her dream is to one day open her own bakery.

BET ON MY HEART is a funny entertaining read. Some of the scenes were downright hilarious. I read this book within a few hours. This is the third entry in J.M. Jeffries’s Passion’s Gamble series and the setting is in Reno. I love Hendrix because she is not afraid to be herself no matter what others may think.  Donovan walks around confused. He can’t understand why he is attracted to someone who is the total opposite of him. Donovan and Hendrix give a whole new meaning to opposites attract. The one thing they do have in common is their love of food.  Donovan leads a pretty quiet existence and Hendrix shakes things up a bit by putting a little fun in his life. With all their differences, these two are great together as a couple.

This story just shows you that love can happen between the most unlikely people. Good writing.  The other characters are from the author’s first two entries in this series; Love Takes All and Love’s Wager.  Donovan’s grandmother, “aka Ms. E”, is still controlling her grandchildren without barely lifting a finger.

BET ON MY HEART is a fun easy-going love story with two very likeable characters.  I enjoyed reading it.  Can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Kenzie; the youngest sibling.
